It’s the first time here at work in 1 and half year that the fire alarm went off and we all had to vacate the building. No one was sure if it was a fire drill or was there fire in the building. If was cold outside and we'll had to stand in the cold wind and I started shivering. Everybody left the place in a hurry so some of them didn't get their jackets and it’s was damn cold outside (37F). I forgot my glouses after 20mins my hands turned red. That’s the longest I could stand in the cold wind. So I asked one of my co-worker to start his car as his car was nearby but he never responded and I kept quiet. I asked him again after 10mins he said he didn't wanted to waste his gas and laughed. So I thought he was trying to funny. After another 10mins one of the other guy asked the same guy but he never responded. That made me think that he was mean but I am still not sure if he was trying to be funny or did he really meant it. I was shivering and I decided heck with him I am going to sit in my car. And I said "if anybody wants to join me everybody is welcome" so we'll sat in my car.
I really didn't understand if he was trying to be funny or what. Hmm I think sometimes people don't get that it could be harsh on others when they try to be funny in unnecessary situations.

Kale
..Yes thats a new Green I started to cook and surprisingly it doesn't taste much different from the leafy vegetables I used have back in india. When I decided to cook Kale I thought I should develop a taste for it to like it but luckily that’s skipped now. I am like a contrast person when it comes to food. I like to taste different food when I go out but I am so picky and will end up eating the same old food especially when I am hungry. It takes time for me to develop new taste.
Apart from cooking it in my regular style I got a new recipe for Kale which Kale Chips. Yes that’s right Chips with Leafy vegetable. The recipe is simple but I haven't tried it yet. I always like to eat chips or something crispy when I eat sambhar and rice so instead of potato I can try Kale which is healthy and new.
So here is the recipe.
Ingredients
1. Kale Leaves.
2. Extra Virgin Olive Oil.(1 spoon)
3. Sea Salt.(vrey little)
Procedure:
1) Wash Kale leaves with water so that no mud or any other small insects doesn't hide inside as Kale leaves are very thick.
2)Brush some extra virgin olive oil and cut into small pieces.
3)Now sprinkle some sea salt and place in the pre heated oven (375) for 5 mins.
After 5mins turn the leaves upside down and leave them in the oven for another 5 mins. that’s it the Kale chips are ready.
I'll post my experience in the next post with Kale chips.

Kites
When ever I hear the word Sankranthi the first thing I can think of are the Kites and then comes the Gobbammalu, rangoli and all the pindi vantalu.
When I was a kid I used to love flying kites and I always used fight with my brothers for a big one (ofcourse which I never used to get). Flying kites used to start like around 1 month before Sankranthi and would continue one month after, every weekend.
We had a big play ground kind of thing back of my house. I and few of my childhood boy friends used to gather in the ground usually during weekends and enjoy flying kites. We used fight and help each other flying kites especially when the wind is bad. It was so much fun.
But that’s not the main reason why I started this post its because from past couple f years I don't hear anything about flying kites from this generations kids. I have almost 12 nieces and Nephews (Combining Madhu's and Mine) none of them really talk about flying kites. I don't know if they don't enjoy flying nor they don't have right company or may be not a right ambience? Hmmm what to say about this generation kids they all are busy playing video games and stuff like that.
I always used to enjoy playing outside with friends, running around , fighting with friends and then saying sorry but I never used to sit in front of TV or Computer the whole day. If it’s a weekend it was tough to find me at home because I always use to at be at friends place expect when I am hungry and have to finish my homework. It was much fun. Hmm ...this post made me Nostalgic again!!

NexusOne

googles latest phone with Android.
One of Madhu's friend who is in India wanted to use Nexus One ASAP after the release. So an online order was placed for Nexus One the day its released and I don't know if it was Madhu or his friend who ordered it online but it was delivered the next day.
I was very excited to see how it looks like. Within 1 or 2 days we were supposed to send his(Madhu's friend) luggage to India with another friend of Madhu who came to USA for a vacation.
As for my excitement the phone was good, sleek and super light weight. It had cool live wall papers. Processor speed was awesome but it disappointed me look wise and it was definitely faster than Apple Iphone.
So madhu decided to use it for one day, before he sends it to india as he wanted to get the feel of the processor and apps on it. I don't think even Madhu was impressed with NexusOne except for the Processor speed and its super Light weight design.
For me I'll definetly say Iphone is really cool with all the Apps and stuff. Its really tough for others to beat Apple in its uniqueness. I like Apple products but I am not trying to be biased here. Google's NexusOne can't be compared to Apple's Iphone as both are Unique. Madhu never admits that Apple makes good products. He says he doesn't like to admit that MAC is unique lol.
The fact is its tough for Microsoft and Yahoo to beat google in Searcg engines. By the time Microsoft adds million databases to its search engine application google can add 3 times of what microsoft does and the same way with Internet explorer and Mozilla. I don't think google with its chrome can beat IE and Mozilla.
Similarly nobody can beat Apple in its uniqueness may be all its products are not great but they are definetly unique.

Fire
We moved arround June to the apartment where we are currently living.we have this fire place in our apartment and madhu was waiting for winter to enjoy the fireplace ambience as it was during summer when we moved in. As the winter started he was planning to setit up but it never happened till yesterday. Many times we almost went and bought those fire logs but I stopped Madhu from not doing just becuase I was scared as I wasn't sure if we both know how to use it. After a little research we finally bought those fire logs from Home depot. "each log burns for 3hrs and burn only one log at a time" this what was said on the box which housed the firelogs. We were all excited to enjoy the fireplace ambience so Madhu had placed one log and lit it. It started burning and it really did burn for 3hrs but the sad part was it wasn't really warm unless you stand close to the fireplace. so we were kind of dissappointed but I guess unless you burn few logs for long time I don't think the place will warm up.

health counseling....
Yes I started my holistic health counseling yesterday. Don't mistake it for something else its counseling to enlighten myself about our body, our behaviour towards it and its responses towards us. I am expecting it to be fun and the first session was good. Lissa gave me two books one written by Joshua Rosenthal the Director and Founder of Integretive Nutrition institute for Health and wellness education and the second one is all about the greens. In our session yesterday we talked about all the greens we eat and a regular one entire day in padma's life :). I had to tell her all about what I do from when I wake up to till I sleep. The session was interesting and I learned few new things. As a first day present she gave me KALE which a green leafy a vegetable great source of calcium. I haven't cooked it yet as I don't know how to cook it :). I have to use greens book to look at some of the kale recipes. I'll post how it turns out.
looking forward for the next session which is on Jan 19th.
